In 1932, Mack Molding Co. from New Jersey started producing buttons and caps in Waterloo.
In 1962, the company was sold to Armstrong Cork. Manufacturing procedures were evolving and old molding techniques were replaced by all-new thermoplastic injection molding.
Consumers Glass Ltd. took over the company in 1969 and decided to invest several millions of dollars in the plant's infrastructure and equipment. Starting in 1983, the company set forth to modernize its infrastructures and invested several million dollars in high-tech equipment to automate the production departments.
In 1989, the plant was transferred to Consumers' plastics division and became known as Plax Inc. Unfortunately, the financial situation of Consumers deteriorated to the point that it had to sell all its non-strategic activity assets in plastics.
On October 7th, 1991, a group of employees; Gilles Decelles, Daniel Desjardins and Norman Taylor, with the support of Novacap Investments, acquired the company known as MAC Closures Inc.
In September 1996, MAC Closures received the ISO9002 registration.
In the Spring of 1999, MAC Closures took over Lukian Plastics Inc., thereby increasing production capabilities with two new plants, located in Oakville Ontario and Montreal Quebec.
In October 2003, MAC Closures received the ISO9001-2000 registration.
In December 2007, Berry Plastics acquired Mac Closures reinforcing its leadership position in the closure market.
We are investing in brand new technology such as bi-injection molding of two colors and/or two materials. We also have developed new child resistant, senior-friendly technology closure systems.
Waterloo will keep focusing on these strategic markets; Pharmaceutical, Nutraceuticals, Household Chemical and Personal Care.
